Sketching Exercises

Two weeks ago at the lecture, we did some sketching exercising to help us with drawing people (the original drawings are in this post). I did not like the outcome of my final work and when I wanted to post it I realised I lost the drawings, however, I re-drawn those fashion sketches using other reference photos I found on Unsplash.com.

First, we did some warming exercises to get used to holding a pencil. Here are the results (I used a HB pencil and a black pen + 0.2 black fine liner):

Here we had to draw something while not looking at the paper and making one continuous line. Due to my internet connection, I did not hear the entire task so first I drew a cactus and a bottle, later realising I was supposed to draw a human.

Here are the outlines and general shapes of models shown by our tutor.

Next, we made some negative space drawings.

And later we moved on to drawing a basic fashion pose. After that we started making more dynamic drawings, by tracing over the more and more drawings, in this order:

First, we were only copying the basic shape of the body

Next, we made a more detailed outline. I also used a 0.2 fine liner to make the lines darker.

Next, I have drawn some examples of clothing and coloured it.

I really liked this exercise, although at the begging I was not happy with the outcome. When I gave myself permission to have fun and make mistakes I became more relaxed and the drawings were better. I still have a lot to practice, for example, the anatomy, to make it more realistic, but overall that was an interesting task.
