Sewing Practice
To make sure my final yukata will be sewn I decided to practice on some old clothes. As I never owned a sewing machine and I know I will be using it more I bought a new one. Łucznik Mia, Limited Edition machine in colour red was the one I picked.
This machine has 38 different sewing patterns, a button to sew backwards, an extended arm and what makes everything better, a beautiful, pink-ish colour.
I tried sewing before, especially at the beginning of the first lockdown in March 2020. There was a mask shortage in the hospitals, so, I and a lot of other people decided to help. These were my biggest projects and the machine I used, was borrowed. This time I had more freedom so, to practice I made a pair of trousers. I did not use any templates, I only traced my already existing trousers on a piece of fabric. I have sewn everything together and I surprised myself with how good it looks. I could wear them and it was a comfortable piece of clothing.
The other thing I made was a little handbag. I used leftover fabric from the trousers and other creatures of mine. Here is the result:
It is not perfect, however, It was a good exercise to get used to the machine and gain more confidence in what I am making.
Good background. It's worth doing a couple of tests before you start on the finished outcome if you have enough material to spare.
