Primary Research - Analysis

To find out more about my targeted audience I created a questionnaire. I later shared it with my friends as well as on a group for teenagers and young adults. 40 people participated in this project. My main goals for this survey was to understand the main reasons people buy clothes if they consider change a good or a bad thing and if clothes have gender along with some other questions. These are the results:

This question was just to show me if the answers will be given by people in my desired target group. Although I believe that my creations can be good for everyone, I did decide to go with the 20-30 age group. As we can see 10% of people were in fact in that group, however, I am happy with the biggest (62,5%) group as they are of similar age and their answers can help me as well.
While deciding on this question, I wanted to know the gender of people I asked the questions as it can show me if men and women have different views.
This part, similarly to the previous one, helped me determine if sexual orientation makes people have different views. What I wanted to find from this question the most was the answer on the 'gender-neutral clothing' that will be mentioned later as I thought this may vary.
This question showed me that most of the people taking this survey are students, which means they are still learning and can change their views over time, but also help others to understand important things, like 'everyone should be equal and feel confident in their body', and that is a motto of my project in some way.
Most people were from Poland, however, some were also from Portugal, Hong Kong and the UK.

This question was one that surprised me, as after reading all the answers and analysing each person I saw that almost none want to live in their origin country. People seek new experiences or a better life, which is helpful as it means that they are willing to try new things (for example my project)

When it comes to choosing clothes, people usually look at the price first, but other important parts are colour, fit, comfort, fabric and quality of the piece. In the future and know I can focus on creating something that could be comfortable and beautiful, but not too expensive at the same time.
here, the answers vary. Some people believe that change is always good when some like to stay with what is traditional. They also mention that the reason for the change is important as we should never change for someone, but we can do so if what was before harmed us in any way.
This question was the biggest surprise. As I mentioned at the beginning I thought that answers would be different depending on the orientation and gender, however, almost 100% (only less than 0,05% said that clothes should have gender) answered that clothes are unisex and everyone should be able to wear what they want. I think it is beautiful how the mindset of people changes as time goes by and we gain the consciousness that everyone should be free and be able to express themselves however they please. Although I like the answer that I included in the photo (the long one), as it agrees with the main idea, they would like it to be made easier to find certain things, which I understand. Even if the clothes are universal, some like to find clothes in specific aesthetic and it is also good. After this question, I gained more confidence in making a piece that would be suitable for everyone.

No surprise here, I just wanted to know the answer as that is why I want to make this piece of clothing.

Makeup, art and behaviour were mostly said in these answers which is great as the second part of my project is an art and makeup related so I believe many people will enjoy this.

Although in this question many answers were affirmative, there is still a number of people not feeling comfortable stepping out of the comfort zone. They prefer to stick with things they know rather than something new. I would like to help them find the courage to express themselves and understand that we only live once so it is not worth it to stay in one place. With my project, I will try to change their point of view.

In conclusion, this questionnaire helped me understand my target audience more as well as tendencies in fashion and the world itself. I can now direct my project in a better way, have a purpose and change people's lives.

  1. Firstly, excellent that you got some many people involved in this survey and were able to get a real cross section of opinion and viewpoint. That is a really important factor in an exercise such as this. You state that you want people to step out of their comfort zone, which is an admirable (but difficult) thing to do. How are you planning to do that? It is worth stating here. Good evidence, though, now follow up with secondary research that re-enforces what you have discovered here.
