Kimono - Failed Attempt

I started making my kimono-hoodie, about 3 weeks ago and I was documenting the process throughout. It started good and was going fast, however at the stage where I have sawn together front and back pieces I realised I made the kimono too small and I had to start over. I went to the fabric shop as soon as I could and started over (this process will be presented in the next post), however, I decided to show my process of the failed attempt as a reflection on my work so far.

I started by measuring my body and putting the length and width on the sewing pattern I created, above I also wrote how many of each piece will I need.

Then I connected some newspapers and traced my pattern onto them to make it easier for me to transfer it on the fabric later.

Here you can see the fabric that is already cut. However, the first mistake I made was with a sleeve (on the left side) as I lost my focus and cut wrong, which led to me not having enough fabric for both of them. I wanted to buy another piece of fabric to make it, but later I discovered what I mentioned before, that the kimono is too small so I just bought a piece of new full-length fabric (I will talk about this in the post about actually kimono).

Here is the back that was sawn together, we can already see it is kind of slim.

And here, although it is not a great photo, we can the front and the back connected. I also cut the opening on the chest, which was another bad idea, as it made it even slimmer and impossible to overlap as it was supposed to. At this point I gave up on this piece and did everything from the beginning, having in mind the mistakes I made. It is going much better and I will post about the actually kimono soon.
