Sequence photography - Research

On our first Digital Arts lecture, we were talking about sequences in photography, how we can show movement and dynamic using a few pictures that together make a whole story. There is a lot of artists that are or were using this technique and got amazing results.

First one is Keith Arnatt, a photographer born in 1930 in England. Through his life, he lived in a few cities in the United Kingdom. His work was associated with new conceptual movement in art, connected to minimalism. The picture "Self-burial" is based on Keith's fascination with art made in the natural landscape but without leaving any signs of it. As he said "The continual reference to the disappearance of the art object suggested to me the eventual disappearance of the artist himself"

Duane Michals is the other artist that does sequential photography. He was born in 1932 and uses unique photo sequences, often with added text to show emotions or meaning of his art. He is a self-taught photographer, his first exhibition was based on the pictures he took while being on a trip in USSR. He was working as a commercial photographer and took photos for a cover of the album Synchronicity by The Police.

  1. Okay good that you have found some facts about these two photographers. More commentary from yourself would be useful about why you are looking at these and hoe they inform your work
