As my Final Project, I decided to make a poster for a campaign against school shootings. According to CBS News " By the end of 2019, there were 417 mass shootings in the U.S., according to data from the nonprofit Gun Violence Archive (GVA), which tracks every mass shooting in the country. Thirty-one of those shootings were mass murders." 54 of these shootings, were taking places in schools. In most of them, at least one person died. I think every student should feel safe in the place they came to learn. Violence needs to stop, but sometimes the source of all those terrible emotions are fights people have inside them, some kids don't have or think they don't have anyone they would talk with. All those unsaid words make them "explode" with anger. Many of these massacres could be avoided, if someone listened, asked or stoped assaulting. Murder can not be justified but we can try to understand so that in the future we can do something before it is too late.
These are the images I kept as my inspiration:
As my base, I chose a backpack because that is the thing that most students have and it is the easiest to hide something in it. Kids that start shootings often take the gun from home and parents do not usually check their offspring bags as none thinks that someone they raised could do something that terrible.
(The top layer)
I wanted to make almost an X-ray of the bag, to show what is inside. Using 2 layers of the same photo (one under the gun and one above which had its opacity lowered), I created the illusion of a transparent backpack with an M16 Rifle in it.
Then I pasted the picture of the gun in between the layers and cut the hole in the bottom layer as you could not see the X-ray effect otherwise. To cover the hole a little, I added a layer with just a grey splash in the shape of the hole. It made the backpack look transparent, but at the same time prevented it from looking unfinished.
I did it with the use of a painting tool.
The photo with the gun inside the layers:
To made a bigger impact on a viewer, I added the question "Do You know what your child brings to school?" as I believe that most of the parents were not aware of the tragedy that was about to take place. I also wanted to keep it as simple and clear as possible, so that it would be easier to understand. I did it by clicking on Text, add new text and changing the font and size until I was happy with the results.
The final touch was to add a logo. I created a company called "Safe Life" as it perfectly connected with the purpose of my ad. I decided to make it more interesting and thoughtful by adding a letter "V" so that it not only says "Safe Life", but also "Save Life". I imagine it to be a company that is focused on mental health and campaigns just like the one I made. I created it in the logo maker -
freelogodesign.org. Sadly I do not have photos of the process.
M final piece turned out great, almost like something we could see on the streets. I am really proud of it, as it looks exactly as I imagined it to be. It is very professional-looking, but I think that you as my viewers should decide on it.
Resources:
Okay I think you have a good advert but you should have shown screenshots with your technical process as outlined in the class. As I stated this is what is marked on the assessment not the final outcome of your advert here. You have clearly shown some skills but have not demonstrated how you did this. Also you have shown no planning as again outlined in class. Please add and improve you process and add a proper references section at the end of the post - you have added resources which should be in the posts and references should be at the end.
ReplyDeleteI really like your project! I think it's a very relevant subject and the final image is very clever, but I believe that the backpack lacks contrast against the weapon, since they both have very similar colours. I also think that the logo could be a bit bigger and contrasted, as the white letters kind of fade in the background and aren't very readable in the final photo. But I believe that the concept of the logo is very smart and adequate. I also think that you have forgotten to reference where you found the inspiration images. But in conclusion I think that the process is clear, except for the tools you used, and the final outcome is great.
